Also the fact that the moon's gravity/tide affects the different layers
of the earth with different degrees of torque, such that the mantle
turns one less revolution per year than the core. This differential
does produce the gyroscopic stabilization you speak of, but it also
generates the powerful magnetic field that protects the earth from
harmful levels of cosmic and solar radiation.
