Dear Miss Manners: what is the proper way of eating a blue giant star?
-- Hostess Binary
Dear Mrs Binary, the traditional way of starlifting parties has been to
increase the rotation of the main star and then use magnetic field
straws to gather the plasma from the equator. This was messy, and while
it does break the ice at parties, it usually ended up scattering gas all
over the place and giving some of the guests less mass than they
decently should get. These days the proper method is generally
recognized as making the central star precess. This produces a nice
thick disk that can be grabbed nicely along the circumferense,
especially if you have provided some orbiting neutronium chunks that can
be used for focus (always a popular addition to megascale cooking; I got
mine from the Ophiuichi Stellar Engineers). A nice decoration is to let
the gas cool down enough for carbon compound molecules to form, they
give the spectrum a festive appearance.
I hope your star lifting party will be a great and tidy success.
