Mike,
I think if you read Barnett's analysis in March's Esquire as the model
for the present US administration's view of the world and what is to be done
I think you will find they have a different set of assumptions.
If I understand them they believe that certain 3rd world nations have
to be brought into the community of nations. Again, if I understand them
these nations should remain independent nations and equal members of the
community.
If I am right in my interpretation of what is going on in terms of
Hernando de Soto's The Mystery of Capital, what is required is a basic change
whose nature puts the various 3rd world nations on a trajectory to becoming
1st world countries.
Of course DeSoto believes the key change is to establish a legal
system that guarantees private property.
Over the weekend I was reading an editorial that seemed to indicate
that W was leaning towards establishing a secular school system such as we
have. I have no idea whether this would be in conjunction with DeSoto's
proposed solution or not.
In any case if John Taylor Gatto is correct a school system like ours
would eventually totally remodel their society into a secular one.
