Leave it to The Scottsman to publish an article about stoners (and non-tech
stoners, at that!) harping about the hippy dippy space aliens and
macrobiotics :-(
When I first saw the "Latinum" in the title, I was hoping for some dreadul,
nerd, article about Ferengis and their love of "gold-pressed latimum." This
was considered major valuta, on the series Star Trek: Deep Space 9. But at
least it made economic sense, since Roddenberry, and Brandon Braga never
seemed to deal much with how you might finance an intersteller empire.
Nanowave directed us to:
<<MAYBE it has something to do with this time of year. This was when Pagan
peoples needed something to believe in that would see them through the dark
nights and the dead days. I mean, they must have been wondering, do you
think the sun really will come back and things will start growing again, all
that green stuff and that? Yes, we know it did that the last time. But what
guarantee do we have? . . .
