Recently Key West began a campaign to secede from the US, after which they
planned to declare war on the mainland, then surrender, then all the conches
(as residents of Key West are known) could get rich selling subsidized shell
crops and key lime pie to tourists. They got as far as composing a petition
and designing a flag when they realized they were already subsidized by
tourists who outnumbered residents two to one.
The real mystery isn't capital, it's how people can be enthralled by silly
ideas... especially such silly ones as communism.
