My wife, a Thai Buddhist, and I watch Thai television news via a satellite
feed. We see news reports of Islamic fundamentalists attacking and killing
Thai police, burning down schools, and intimidating teachers. Although
Thailand has a secular government the society is about 90% Buddhist. The
low-level insurgency in the southwestern provinces and near Malaysia has
been going on for at least 20 years.
