A good point.
Maybe what is missing in transhumanist circles at present
is an appreciation that "hanging separately" may be the
consequence of not "hanging together". Of not stepping
forward soon enough and of not fighting on the logical
memetic fault lines.
There are some transhumanists whom I do not think will
survive if cryonics is not an option for them. Better options,
for some, almost certainly will not arrive in time.
I don't know that cryonics will work, but I think it is a
smarter choice than burial or cremation and I can see
no legitimate grounds on which people should be denied
the freedom to avail themselves of that choice.
Robert Ettinger more than any other person that I am
aware of is responsible for working to make cryonics
a practical option.
*If* the Cryonics Institute or Robert Ettinger need support
to whether a political storm I think it would be a mistake
for any prospective cryonaut to regard either as an
acceptable loss.
