Well, yes. But do remember that one of the signs of the singularity is
the more frequent occurance of unexpected, but predictable, events.
Like this.
Focusing on e-mail and spam is focusing too narrowly. In a broader
sense this kind of activity will increase over the coming decades. Some
we'll like, and some we won't.
Actually, I consider the onset of the singularity so dangerous, that if
it weren't for the dangers posed by lunatic govt.s (including ours) that
I would support doing everything reasonable to slow things down to a
managable level. As it is, however, I feel that the very
unpredictability is our only possible salvation. The govt's seem to
have taken to heart the old saying "If the government doesn't like it's
population, it should elect a new one." With every authoritarian
pronouncement I am more and more grateful for the unpredictable future,
because if they could predict it, I feel it would soon become a
nightmare. CyberPunk wouldn't be in it.
But the future sure isn't what it used to be.
