An interesting looking pop sci book I've just started reading is EMOTIONS
REVEALED: Understanding Faces and Feelings, by Professor Paul Ekman, who
has researched an adjacent field for some 40 years. He started with a
routine belief in social construction of emotions, and was shocked by his
cross-cultural studies into accepting that emotions are human
universals--although, a key point, their *public expression* often varies
strikingly due to culturally contingent `display rules'.
