    ### I am not saying this would be the usual outcome, but rather that we have
    insufficient data to exclude it as a possibility, and it could (although I
    doubt it) be the explanation for the Fermi paradox.

    Let me quote the last sentence of the post you referred to:

    "I tend to think that expansion and proliferation will be decisive for
    successful survival at superhuman levels of intelligence as well, but one
    never knows."
