Traditional hubris is defined as "1) Exaggerated pride or self
confidence often resulting in retribution. 2) Overbearing presumption;
arrogance".
I don't think we need to update 2) much on this list, we still use the
normal program there. But what would 1) in >Hubris be?
We don't think any gods are going to exact retribution, and having
torch-bearing farmers storm one's castle seems to be at the lower end of
the retribution scale (a Frankenstein movie never ends with the
researcher killed by the people, but nearly always with being struck by
lightening). Maybe the retribution should be seen as a reaction from the
universe as a whole - something in physical law or the already present
theoretical dark matter supercivilizations that makes them interven when
you do certain things.
So >Hubris would be something like knowingly acting in a way that would
invite retribution from various high level entities if they exist, and
if the plan succeeds change the universe to the extent that these
entities become irrelevant. A bit like Bob oblitterating the cheese:

Muhahahaha! ;-)
