This is only true for a default browser setup where the user has given
no thought to security and defending himself when roaming the dangerous
wilds of the internet. It is a trivial task to block the referrer URL in
your browser, (or spoof it, as my software does).

If you haven't installed any defenses then when you run any cleanup
software, you will be amazed at all the junk it finds that web sites
have been dumping on your PC.

Remember when you are looking at a web site, they are also looking back
    at you!

Be careful, it's dangerous out there! :)
