Actually Mez, there is a recent announcement by a Paul Allen
"skunkworks" that was working with Cyc and several other groups
that there has been a significant improvement in field specific
AI (or at least reasoning and drawing conclusions). If Google
can't find it let me know and I'll dig out the reference.
