    The issue isn't politics, it's the rancorous manner of the debate.

    My experience with large mailing lists tells me that the only ones
    that are civil are those with active list admins who are willing to
    enforce the rules. That means kicking repeat offenders off the list.

    If civility is a goal of this list (is it?) then I believe such active
    rule enforcement is a necessity. And that must come from the top.
