I think we are reading far to much into the God quote. I have lost count of
the times I have said 'Thank God' This is no indication of my religious belief,
just of my vocabulary and the common sayings I use.
It is much preferable in many instances to say 'Thank God' than it is to say
'Thank Fuck for that' The point is that I no more believe that God is
responsible for the preferable outcome of anything, than I do that Fucking is somehow
responsible. Although doing the latter usually never does any harm.
