Yes indeed. Anything, that seems to be out of the ordinary, such as
transluminal objects (which have been explained as optical illusions) need to be
examined. A rectangular-appearing thing is not ordinary in the total history of
astromomy, a few constellations aside. My concern is that bench astronomers may
miss the forest for the trees because of their trainning. In this case, ETI's
re-arranging the local neighborhood should on the short-list of possibilities,
even if it is later, to be identified as a natural phenomena.

We know advanced technological civilizations that want to build
Matrioshka Brains may want to perform star-lifting or even complete
stellar disassembly. Such process are not likely to be particularly
"orderly" esp. if you want to do them quickly.
Could be the unspecified companion(s) are Jupiter Brains sucking up
all the extra material the star is releasing. When one is dealing
with stellar sized gravity wells one may simply not bother to be
"polite" about the processes one uses.
