I must say that this evenings piece is the only time in CNN's history
where they have presented a truly balanced piece on firearms. It took
the outrage and demands of at least thousands of Americans to make it
so, they would not have done so otherwise, I can assure you. Whether
they will do so again in the future remains to be seen. Getting
reporters to tell the truth shouldn't require holding their feet to the
fire, it should be second nature.
While the Sherriff is culpable for participating in the deception,
CNN's record shows that their editorial agenda is essentially anti-2nd
Amendment. They had millions of possible 'experts' to consult for this
piece, and they chose him. How they got his name, were I to guess,
would likely be referenced by anti-gun groups they regularly present as
authorities.
LaPierre was exactly right to take the tack he did on Friday night,
because they made no attempt in their original piece to present ANY
sort of opposition view. Zarella never interviewed anybody from any
pro-gun group, no pro gun expert like Prof. John Lott, and made no
attempt to present alternative views until he was accused of being a
liar and a lobbyist by Wayne LaPierre.
CNN is making a big PR thing about being "the network America trusts,
period". They were forced by their own PR to backtrack on their
editorial agenda when LaPierre accused them of untrustworthiness on
their own broadcast.
