Sorry the placement of the second clause of the second sentence in that
paragraph renders the rest of it nonsensical.
To clarify: Though it is unlikely at this point that the ban on assault
weapons will be extended, the White House has stated that Bush favors an
extension of the ban and some GOP members of Congress have indicated they
will support an extension if Bush requests it. This makes the NRA very upset
given that the GOP controls the White House and Congress and given that the
NRA thinks it controls the GOP. :) It's no wonder that Wayne LaPierre of the
NRA was so beside himself in the interview with Kyra Phillips on CNN.
It seems the NRA is trying very hard to prevent a possible media-supported
public campaign to pressure Bush to pursue an extension of the assault
weapons ban.
