Yes, he was in many ways the high point. You might remember my
speculation before the war that Saddam was not that good at media
manipulation. The dear minister seems to have proven it, but
paradoxally there is something charming about the bloody
rhethoric and upbeat smile in the face of defeat. Hardly
dynamical or practical optimism, but at least chutzpah. Why admit
    defeat?

He would probably be a great press spokesperson for many
corporations these days: "Those rumours of irregular accounting
and stock market swindles are just lies spread by our ineffectual
competitors. But they will be shamed and slaughtered as the
snakes they are when they see our quarterly report!" Maybe we
will see him at the next Ericsson conference.

He was ambassador to Sweden a few years back, and I got a weird
feeling today when I realized that one of my neighbours when I
was a kid was an Iraqi diplomat. However, that was not him, but I
think I can honestly say I'm just two degrees of separation from
the minister through our neighbor (...and through him three
degrees from Saddam?! Oh dear, I better find a cave to hide in!).
