I feel that there actually *are* grounds that might be used to justify
the on-coming war. I haven't heard them claimed by anyone, but they do
exist. But it might be a bit difficult to prove that they apply. It
goes like this:
People don't know how to get along with each other, unless someone makes
them. When the toughest bully gets to the top of the pecking order, he
generally makes everyone else stop fighting. (Not perfectly, but pretty
near.) The US is currently the only reasonable candidate for toughest
bully. So it has to demonstrate that it's willing to fight to hold the
title. Then it can tell everyone else to stop fighting, and they pretty
much will.
It's the general scheme used by social animals that are intelligent
enough to recognize individuals, and practice rudimentary
communication. Like a flock of chickens. (One of the techniques used
is for the top chicken to select a "loser", and then orchestrate an
attack where everyone picks on the "loser". Until it either flees or dies.)
This looks to me like what may be going on. It makes more sense than
any other explanation I've heard. I wonder why nobody it claiming it as
the justification?
