When stationed in Naples, Italy (1977-80) my Alfa Romeo plates stood out
like a sore thumb, AFI (Armed Forces Italy) with black letters on a white
background. It facilitated the Carabinieri to stop us and ask if we had
paid our radio tax, front end alignment looked bad or suspected cracked
    windshield/windscreen.
