I just got a new versions (2.2d) of AceReader Pro running.
Contrary to my prior post, a page-style tachistoscope *is* available
(it's called Eye Trainer Scroll Mode, and I might have misremembered
it as not working because of one other thing I really wished for:
a programmable end-of-page delay to give me time to swing my eyes
back up the way I do when I flip a page in a real book). Might be
a teeny bit nicer if it greeked the text around the "lit" zone with
the proper word shapes. I don't want much, do I? :)
For now, I can just use a function key to repeat-burst what I miss
when my lazy eyes take their time getting back to ULC. I'm using
Times New Roman with a custom page color that approximates cream
laid paper and maroon for the font color. It looks better than it
sounds.
Mr. Marasco (the programmer-entrepreneur at StepWare) says a
new major version is coming out some time later this year, and
he thinks I'll be pleased with some new features. We shall see--
I'll report when/if I know more. I'm hoping for some improved
HTML support.
Now to get it working with Pivot (the screen rotation software)
on something portable. I might try to read all my email (at least)
this way.

PS: thanks to Alex F. Bokov (I think it was) for introducing
AceReader to me. He had some other interesting tools that
he was using for learning enhancement--check the extro archives.
A search on AceReader will probably turn the relevant post up.
