Lee,
In the spring of 1958 I was attending a college in South Texas. The
editor of the campus newspaper was so far right he made everyone else look
like a flaming liberal. I well remember that he wrote an editorial stating
that all the major schools of journalism had extremely left wing faculties.
I do not recall his reasons for believing the faculties were left wing and
were recruiting left wing students. But I do recall his prediction that our
national media would end up very left wing as a result.
You also said something about these things going in cycles. I
remember that in the 50s if you tangled with someone from the left you had
best have done your homework. They were prepared in those days and you were
not going to catch them uninformed or guilty of either sloppy scholarship or
presentation.
