What Coast Guard stuff? He graduated Annapolis. That's Navy. He wanted to
serve on an aircraft carrier, did so, was then transferred to the /Roper/
against the strong objections of his CO (and, one would think, himself),
got seasick so badly and so often that he contracted tuberculosis and got
a medical discharge.
He had a huge influence on a lot of folks.
