1) Stop dealing with evil regimes just because they suit your needs.
Stop the double measure. Stop calling everyone enemy just because he
doesn't share you opinion. Instead protect and support movements for
democracy and human rights.

2) Play fair, stick to the Golden Rule and the Categorical Imperative.
Show that the USA are rich and wealthy enough, they don't need to live
on the expense of others. Acknowledge that also the US are one amongst
others and have to respect the needs of others. Make consultation and
cooperation the principles of your politics.

3) Regarding the middle east, bring together as many people from that
region as possible and develop strategies and plans for a new,
democratic middle east, closely involving all persons of good will from
that region, even if this means years long talks. Be gratious with
education and development aid for groups and movements for peace and
democracy and human rights. Make it clear, that occupation of territory
or executions of politicians in other countries is no accepted
instrument of politics. Find a common compromise and stay to it. Prefer
a slow and steady progress instead of quick, unpredictable actions.

4) If a war is unavoidable, make it clear to everyone, that this is
truly the last resort. Convince, don't drown. Keep it transparent, not
shiny.

That's not weakness, that's leadership.
