This is in a vacuum. Now, I can't see the stars on the opposite side of
the sun from here, so it's rather obvious that the sun isn't a vacuum.
Furthermore, being more or less solid/liquid/plasma matter, it is
unlikely that a photon created in the core would ever survive to the
surface. It's energy would be absorbed and reemitted by many billion
billions of atoms between the core and the surface.

The solar neutrino counting problem has been recently resolved, with
the deficit discovered to be a type of neutrino difficult to detect.
