Well, if you're talking non-fiction, I think you may be referring to
Kip Thorne's _The Physics of Immortality_ in which we "resurrect"
people from the past from within the Omega Computer.
BTW, for my money, _The Physics of Immortality_ is one of the best
science-related books of the 20th C.
