I think one important thing to remember here is that the sophoctupi
will not be "pure" cephalopods, they will get a lot of their mental
structure and culture (and hence values) from their patrons. That
means that they will likely have a somewhat "humanesque" outlook,
tinged with extropianism if the uplifting team are extropians. Just
like teenagers they may rebel against these values if they are
motivated to do so, but it is hard to remove the basic values of
oneself and one's culture. So let's make sure it is the nice people to
uplift smart animals, not nasty people uplifting cute animals.
