The same could be said about slavery and freedom, to paraphrase
Clausewitz, "Slavery is the natural state of humanity. Freedom is a
theoretical ideal whose existence we deduce from the fact that there are
occasional intervals in human history within specific classes of some
societies where individuals are not enslaved."
Rather, what I think the current state of marriage in our society
indicates is only that the currently accepted legal forms of marriage
are insufficient for the needs of society.
