Unfortunately, the US has played with the feasibility of faked
attacks according to a book by James Bamford based on FOIA
documents that was published in May 2001. These notions kicked
around were in the Kennedy administration though. Still, it is
sickening that in fact there are creatures in our government and
military that have indeed thought in such terms. Never say "never".
