re: Hofstadter-esque riddles

Speaking of Douglas R. Hofstadter --

I discovered recently that he translated a version of Evgenij Onegin
by Pushkin, published Sept 2000
(apparently Hofstadter is fluent in Russian)

however I was unsuccessful on my US trip this last week to get my
hands on a copy in a bookstore to take a look at the book. (Classic
literature from authors like Pushkin is difficult to find in the
average bookstore)

I would like to know from the collective wisdom of the folks here if
this is a good translation, and if anyone knows why he choose to
attempt a translation.

(now back in Germany ... hopefully my luggage will catch up soon)
