    Looking at these two polls, I would conclude that, since those overseas
    more than likely only know personally Americans who are actually
    immigrants from their own community, and that 80% of those immigrants
    call the US "a unique country that stands for something special in the
    world" (a pretty arrogant statement to make, fer sure), it seems to me
    that the opinions of the rest of the world about Americans is generally
    based on the attitudes of those who have immigrated.

    I think this is a reasonable conclusion to make. I've also heard of
    many immigrants to the US finding that their relatives overseas have
    extremely inaccurate perceptions about what the US is like. If your
    children or grandchildren, or your smart cousin, went to America to
    live and came back and told you that everything you think you know
    about the US is wrong, you'd think that Americans are 'arrogant' and
    not 'humble' like you in your patriarchal mindset thinks they should be.
