You mention Zicam. I have been using this for a few years now with
significant results. Of course this is not scientific, but my testimonial is
that it does affect my colds! When i first feel a cold coming on, and I get
alot of small colds, I immediately use it. If I am lethargic, within 1 hour
    my energy goes up.

Normally, a cold for me goes something like this: 7 days of mucous, no
fever, but lethargy and lots of congestion. Doing anything is a no fun.
Another 7 days of things getting better. 14 days till I can go to gym again.

On Zicam, it goes like this. Take Zicam, 3 days of feeling half bad works
then I get better. Within 7 days if I take correctly I feel fine, can go to
    gym agian.

BUT, sometimes I have felt so good on ~ day 4 that I go out, then relapse,
then I have a low level lingering cold for 2 more weeks. This is the oly
possible downside i have had, but now i take it easy for at 7 days on zicam.

I do notice something w Zicam, I suspect that it is sort of toxic to your
nasal passages, and kills the virus or someting. It can make you get a sore
    throart if you swallow.
Do not use unless you start it at beginning of cold.
I have used it on at least 20 colds over 3 years so I have a bit of
experince, and i have a degree in Molecular Biology, so i am not a lay
    person.

I have no idea about SARS, but I am curious about Zinc and colds and maybe
    SARS.
