The landmines there would really slow down a massive North Korean advance, thereby saving many thousands of American and South Korean lives. I wish the Korean situation would fizzle out so a ban could be ratified by the United States.

Yes, minefields degrade the tactical surprise and either delay or eliminate
the need to use tactical nukes. Last year I worked out of Seoul for three
months (Sep-Dec 2000) as a steenkeen contractor. Below the DMZ minefields
are seeded around communications and other special sites. I saw these up
close and personal, especially when driving my Korea-made Galloper 4X4 up
and down the one-way access roads.
Someone in another e-mail stated the U.S. was the greatest manufacturer of
landmines. I remember a segment on either "60 Minutes" or "20/20" where
Italy was cited as the greatest manufacturer. Perhaps this was only for
the Africa market.
Slightly new topic. On Bill Maher's "Policity Incorrect" it was stated
that diamonds contributed to filling the coffers of petty tyrants, rebel
groups, and terrorists.
