Challenging it would be foolish.

If you can't find a job in the US making what you need to make to
survive, move to a place where you can.

Move to India, where you could afford to take a salary equivalent
of USD$20,000 yearly, and you'll live like a king. Plus, you'll
always have accessibility to good Indian food (lamb korma, here
I come!).
