Just a little FYI here. A fine discussion of phlogiston theory and its
replacement by the oxygen hypothesis can be found in Paul Thagard's
_Conceptual Revolutions_. Thagard covers all sorts of conceptual
changes in science. (I reviewed this book several years ago for _Full
Context_. My review is available online at
