Subject: Research in Italy
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am sorry to bother you with non-scientific problems, but in Italy we
are facing with serious and dramatic problems concerning the research.
Our Government has decided to cut fundings: this is now "usual" in
Western countries, but in Italy we have already a very low funding. A
further cut will be dreadful for our already poor research. In addition,
the Government wants to reduce the personnel of scientific institutions
and to cancel the National Research Council (CNR, Consiglio Nazionale
delle Ricerche).
The Italian Association of PhDs (ADI; I am a member) has prepared a plea
to the Italian Chief of Government, Silvio Berlusconi, and several of
his ministers. You can find it at the web address (both in Italian and
in English):
http://www.dottorato.it/appellogiovaniricercatori/index.html
I will greatly appreciate if you can subscribe and spread the plea. We
have already collected more than 3000 subscriptions and, among them,
those of the Italian Nobel Prizes Rita Levi Montalcini and Renato
Dulbecco.
Thank you again for your help in this difficult time for Italy.
Greetings,
Luigi
