How much are you willing to spend? Some assembly required, or off-shelf?

I think you might be happy with htdig/xpdf and one of the wearable
Linux distros. Notice that if you're in wireless modem coverage
(Ricochet etc.) you can have a fast (128 kBps) link to Google. And
Google can index .pdf. So you don't have to lug around few 10 GByte,
as the small drives are quite expensive.
