Moore's law is just about how much transistors you can pack on a(n
affordable) die (available in quantities).

Performance metrics are notoriously dubious, and are growing even more
so as the chasm between best and worst case continues to widen. It is
rather well known that the subjective performance experience is
degrading due to bloat and architectural misdesign both at hardware
and software level.

I could launch into a long diatribe now, but I won't.
