I'm not sure I understand your comment about the view being 'simple
minded'.
'Information' is an extremely esoteric concept, particularly when taken
from an information theoretic point of view. I'm fairly certain that there are
deep connections between information and existence - take, for example,
the information theoretic definition of entropy and the definition of entropy
in statistical physics.
I get funny feelings in my gut everytime I think about this. Its usually a
good indicator that my instincts are right, but that I've got insufficient
information(!) to form a definitive opinion. (I know, not great science, but
hey, I'm only human).
