It is worth reading even if you hate it. But I really recommend "The
Anthropic Cosmological Principle" by Tipler and Barrow; less pop-sci and
pop-religion, and more science (this was the book that made me a
transhumanist).
"Out of Control" by Kevin Kelly is a bit hip, but it contains plenty of
fun stuff relevant to extropianism.
