I can see why they recommend Goth--if they did not listen to the lyrics.
Usually one of the essential characteristics of Goth is supposed to be a
concern (fixation?) with death. Just add a little negation--i.e., a concern
with not dying--and you're right in there. On the other hand, Goth is
sometimes interpreted quite widely to include bands with more of a vanilla
flavoring, e.g., the Cure. My favorite Goth band hails from Australia, the
legendary The Birthday Party. (Some of the wreckage of this band made it
into Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, including Mr. Cave himself). The Birthday
Party has quite a dank and dark view of the world--understandable really
given that they are from Melbourne. :)
