The obvious scenario here is stock trading (XYZ hit your trigger
price. Sell?)

As the devices become more ubiquitous, networking effects could allow
for peer-to-peer transactions (Hal suggest we split the restaurant
bill 4 ways. Agree?). Or play pocker with your buddies in the bar,
without anything as flagrantly illegal as a stack of chips in front
of you.

They could generate smart contracts. David McFadzean told me this
scenario: my taxi is late and I will miss my flight unless I am
picked up in the next 10 minutes. Here's a $X bonus is you arrive by
then.

If your taxi then gets held up in traffic on the way to the airport,
your hand held starts to negotiate with the traffic lights to get
priority treatement.
