As I understand it these take a couple of weeks to take effect. And often
have disturbing side effects. Not much use in fits of sudden despair.

I want something like Phil Dick's `mood organ' (DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF
ELECTRIC SHEEP), a kind of Persinger brainwave gadget to tweak targeted
neurons. That's crass, of course, but acute misery is perhaps just as
accidental as a broken leg, and needs an emergency fix while nature and
insight takes its recuperative course.
