Question, please Greg Burch. I havent been in a court trial in...
well, ever, but they used to make a witness put her hand on
a bible and swear to tell the truth so help her god.
Do they still do that? What would I do if called to testify? Instead of
saying "I do" what would happen if I replied "So help me me." ?
What do they do if it is a trial in Santa Clara county where
there might be not a single christian in the room? There might
be a buncha budhists, hindus, muslims, a wiccan or two, but
no one who would recognize a bible as a lie detector. Does
the witness get thrown out by the jury if they refuse to swear
on a bible or to god? Would they ever make someone swear
with their hand on a koran? If I brought a copy of Hofstadter's
Escher Godel Bach and asked to substitute, would that fly? spike
