I knew very little about Taiwan's history, so I
    googled up a short selection...
Did you know for example, that Taiwan was a Japanese
    colony from 1895-1945...

I figure that for most of us, there really
isn't much practical difference between martial
law and democracy. In democracy, a criminal
gets a long trial, then either goes free or goes
to prison, depending on how much money she has.
Under martial law, a criminal gets a short trial
then either goes free or gets shot, depending on
    how much money she has.

Other than that, the two systems are pretty
similar. From a business perspective, they
    would be indistinguishable.
