At 11:25 PM 8/20/03 -0400, Michael Dickey asked me:
>Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that you were
>an Australian citizen.
I have that good fortune.
>If so, what direct influence,
>exactly, do you have over the justice system in the US?
Direct? None in the sense of voting or standing for office in that great
nation. But as a writer published regularly for more than 30 years in the
USA, and as a poster to this list where the majority of readers are
Americans, I do exert some small influence. It is possible that more
Americans read my words, conveyed in print and electronically, than read
those of anyone else on this list. I dare say very few Iraqi dictators,
communist commissars, terrorist bombers or anyone not in Poland, Germany,
France, Italy and anywhere where English is the common tongue would be
influenced by anything I have to say.
