My input in the META brainstorm:
1) One should not aim at fully explicit list rules.
By trying to discharge oneself of controversial choices through fully
stated rules, one gets simplistic, plain bad solutions. The owners
retain their freedom of appreciation and make use of it.
2) Participants in a private forum are guests and should behave as
such.
This is a well-known situation that doesn't require extra rules.
Spitting on the host, for example, or saying that the place stinks, is
not really an option. Except on your way out, of course, before to
slam the door. (In fact, what's the point of staying in a stinking
place anyway?)
3) Keep the list open and diverse.
What seduced me when I discovered extropians a few years ago was its
(intelligent) openness, and the resulting (rich, interesting)
diversity of participants and content. Moderation decisions, in my
opinion, should try to protect that.
