I certainly agree. Mars is a wonderful world.

Since I currently run a rpg scenario set on a future terraformed Mars I
have had the enjoyable challenge of converting Nasa's altitude
observations into maps (Matlab works well for this too), and then learning
some regions by heart. The resolution of the maps is so high that one can
really think about city planning or just how heavy a trek would be. It
would be wonderful to stand at the edge of da Vinci and look down into
Hydraote chaos, or to treck along Shalbatana Vallis towards Orson Welles.
Just the names of the regions are beautiful, and some of the places looks
amazing (see my renderings of Noctis Labyrinthus and a terraformed
    Juventae Chasma at http://www.nada.kth.se/~asa/Game/Mars/labyrinthus.jpg
and http://www.nada.kth.se/~asa/Game/Mars/pdl1.jpg - the directory also
contains some of my maps for a seriously terraformed Mars)

Another great Mars map to start with is
    http://geopubs.wr.usgs.gov/open-file/of02-282/of02-282.pdf
    with close-ups athttp://planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov/mgrid_mola.html

Why go to Middle Earth when there is another Earth? :-)
