Responding to this thread, I believe that Extropians can insist on their
standards, but pragmatism has to be the means to the end. Concerning economic
issues, there ought not to be a litmus test for accomplishing Extropian goals. If
capitalism does the job, fine. If government intervention, achieves the goal,
good on us.
Conforming to the teachings of Ayn Rand, or Karl Marx, or Milty Freedman,
should merely be a guide, or anti-guide, depending on how unworkable their views
are. Chucky Marx would be among the last guys I would consult; since he was so
wrong, so consistantly. But, if he concludes that religion was the opiate of
the masses; so be it.
Conformity seems to be a recurring theme, over the years on this list, with a
few people. But to be influential, a pragmatic policy seems the way forward.
